My name is Paul Mansell, and I am a passionate self-advocate. It has taken me to Sacramento and Washington to meet with legislators and discuss issues affecting People with Developmental Disabilities. This has led me to become an independent facilitator for the Self-Determination Program. I have been in the program for four years and each year is different from the previous. As I change, circumstances change, and goals change, I change my plan.
I am a San Diego native, a graduate of SDSU with a BA in Political Science and an MA in Educational Technology. I have been employed in the field of developmental disabilities for over 20 years and am an officer for San Diego People First and the Statewide Self-Advocacy Network. I have received local and statewide recognition for my advocacy.
I can help you on your journey to Self-Determination by advocating for you or your loved one, teaching you organizational and communicative skills, helping you develop operational procedures, reviewing FMS expenditure reports, and cheering you on along the way.
I can also help you by:
- Assisting you with making informed decisions regarding your individual budget
- Locating, accessing and coordinating services and supports consistent with the participant’s individual program plan (IPP)
- Identifying immediate and long-term needs and developing options to meet those needs
- Obtaining identified services and supports
